current value corresponds to the vector sum of the individual
currents.
• If it can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible,
then the unit must be switched off and protected against un-
intentional operation. It can be assumed that safe operation is
no longer possible if
- the instrument shows visible signs of damage,
- the unit no longer functions and
- after prolonged storage under unfavourable conditions or
- after severe transportation stress.
• Never switch the instrument on immediately after it has been
brought from a cold into a warm area. The resultant conden-
sation water could damage the instrument. Allow the instru-
ment to come to room temperature before switching it on.

4. Description of operating elements

For illustration, see fold-out page
1. Current clamp adapter with an opening diameter of 30 mm
max. (for "enclosing" the current rails, single cables, cable sy-
stems, etc.), with hand protector 1a.
2. Slide switch for switching the unit on and off.
3. Red for ("+") and black ("-") test lead (spiral cable). Even du-
ring AC current measurements, the output from the clamp ad-
apter is a DC voltage.
4. Opening lever for the current clamp.
5. Control LEDs 5a "LO BAT"; it is time to change the internal bat-
tery when this LED lights (red).
5b "POWER"; this LED lights (green) when the Current Clamp
Adapter is on.

measurement

5. Using the Current Clamp Adapters

5.1 Fitting the battery - changing the battery
To function perfectly, the unit must be fitted with a 9V dry cell
battery. If the "LO BAT" LED lights, the battery must be changed.
Proceed as follows:
Disconnect the measuring instrument from the circuit being
measured (current rails, single cables, cable systems, etc.), switch
it off and using a suitable cross-head screwdriver, unscrew the
single securing screw of the battery compartment cover on the
rear of the unit. Now carefully slide the cover of the battery com-
partment in the direction of the arrow. Disconnect the used bat-
tery from its connecting clip and replace it with a fresh battery of
the same (alkaline) type.
After successfully exchanging the battery replace it in the battery
compartment and carefully close this once more in reverse se-
quence. When closing the battery compartment, take care that
the red/black connecting clip leads do not become trapped. If the
measuring instrument is not to be used for a long period (more
than 60 days), the batteries should be removed and stored sepa-
rately.
Attention!
Never operate the measuring instrument in an opened conditi-
on! !Danger to life!
Do not leave used batteries in the measuring device, because
even leak-proof batteries can corrode and thereby release che-
micals, which are both damaging to health and can destroy the
battery compartment.
