• Protect the IR Power Switch with Dimmer before, during and af-
ter use from becoming wet and from condensing steam.
• If it can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible,
then the instrument must be switched off and protected against
unintentional operation. It can be assumed that safe operation is
no longer possible if:
- the instrument shows visible signs of damage,
- the unit no longer functions and
- after prolonged storage under unfavourable conditions or
- after severe transportation stress.
• Never operate the IR Power Switch with Dimmer immediately af-
ter it has been brought from a cold into a warm room. Under cer-
tain circumstances the resultant condensation water inside the
case can destroy the IR Power Switch with Dimmer. Allow the in-
strument to come to room temperature before switching it on.
Connecting, putting into operation
a) General
Plug the IR Power Switch with Dimmer into an earthed 230 V AC
power socket (in a wall socket, output socket to the left, control
panel to the right) such that the legends can be read, using an eart-
hed mains plug/socket adapter as required in certain countries.
Connect the load in a switched-off condition, because plugging the
load into the power when switched on can cause arcing, which can
in turn damage or even destroy the IR Power Switch with Dimmer.
When properly connected, the "STATUS" LED flashes green (basic
setting).
The three-colour "STATUS" LED indicates the present switching
status of the unit. Immediately after plugging in, the LED lights gre-
en. If the "MANUAL" button is now pressed, the LED lights yellow
during the switching action. When the switching action is comple-
te, the LED lights green again.
6
When an infrared remote control unit button is pressed for some 2
seconds, the LED becomes dark. This dark phase lasts however
only some 5 seconds. During this period a switch command can be
given to the IR Power Switch with Dimmer. Each (brief) operation of
a button on the remote control unit is acknowledged by the LED
flashing red.
When the 5-sec time limit expires, the LED lights green again.
Note!
Each switching action, whether due to manual or infrared ope-
ration, is also confirmed acoustically by a signal tone.
b) Manual operation
Manual operation is useful when no remote control unit is available
(or its battery is empty). Press the "MANUAL" button". The output
of the IR Power Switch with Dimmer is now active (switched on,
LED a steady green) until the "MANUAL" button is pressed again
(switched off, LED flashing green). The brightness of a connected
(standard or table) lamp can be manually controlled or set (dim-
med) using the "LEVEL" button. One of eight steps (inc. off) can be
selected.
c) Infrared operation
Built into the IR Power Switch with Dimmer is a wide-band IR-re-
ceiver diode. The IR Power Switch with Dimmer can be conveni-
ently switched on and off from a distance (approx. 5 m max.) using
almost any infrared remote control unit.
Each switching action is confirmed during its dark phase by the
"Status" LED flashing red. To dim, a button must be pressed rather
longer until the desired brightness is set. After the 5-sec time limit
has expired, when the LED lights green again, pressing a button on
the remote control unit initiates the 5-sec dark phase once again.
Ensure that the dimmed lighting is not directed to-
wards the IR Power Switch with Dimmer.
