Operation

• First insert the collecting tray into the UV insect killer, if you have not yet done this.
• Plug the mains plug of the UV insect killer into an appropriate mains socket with protective
earth contact.
• Switch the UV insect killer on using the mains switch (switch position "I").
• The two fl uorescent tubes light up and the UV insect killer is operational.
• If an insect reaches the inside of the device and touches the two grating parts carrying high
voltage, the circuit is closed via the body of the insect and the insect is killed.
It then falls into the collecting tray in the lower part of the UV insect killer.
• If you don't need the UV insect killer any longer, switch it off (switch position "O").
If you want the UV insect killer to be switched on or off via a time-controller (e.g. only
at night), use a suitable day or week clock timer (see for example www.conrad.com)
and keep the mains switch of the device in the "I" position.

Replacing the illuminants

Disconnect the UV insect killer from the mains voltage. Unplug the mains plug from
the mains socket. It is not suffi cient just to switch off the device! There is a life-
threatening hazard through an electric shock!
• After disconnecting the mains plug from the mains socket, remove the UV insect killer from
the suspension chain.
• Pull the insect collecting tray out completely.
• Place the UV insect killer onto a level surface with the front side facing downwards (if re-
quired, use a suitable underlay to avoid scratch marks).
• Unfasten the two screws of the grating on the back,
you can see one of the screws in the image to the right
(marked with a circle).
• Remove the small holding plate. Note the corresponding
orientation.
• Push the grating a slightly downwards. The grating is
mounted on the left and right side of the housing (see circle
in the right image) and thus, it cannot fall out.
Carefully fold the grating back.
• To remove the defective illuminant, it must be rotated forwards by 90° or backwards by 90°.
Then it can be pulled out simultaneously through the slot in the two bulb holders on the left
and right. Do not jam the illuminant, do not apply any force when pulling it out!
• To insert the new illuminant, it must be placed simultaneously in the two holders on the left
and right. Do not jam the illuminant, do not apply any force when inserting it!
Lock the illuminant in the bulb holders by rotating it either forwards by 90° or backwards by
90°.
Use the original fl uorescent tubes offered as accessories/spare parts only. They
have a higher UV ratio than conventional fl uorescent tubes which are used for il-
lumination purposes.
• Close the grating again and push it upwards.
• Insert the two holding plates again and fasten the grating on them using the two screws that
you initially removed.
• Insert the collecting tray correctly.
• Hang up the UV insect killer and check its secure fastening.
• Finally, plug the mains plug back into the earthed safety socket. Switch the UV insect killer
on.
• The UV insect killer is now ready for use.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Disconnect the UV insect killer from the mains voltage prior to any maintenance or
cleaning. Unplug the mains plug from the mains socket. It is not suffi cient just to
switch off the device! There is a life-threatening hazard through an electric shock!
• Empty the collecting tray regularly, approximately once per week, and if there are many dead
insects, even more often. To empty the tray, pull it out. Pulling it out is only possible in one
direction.
• Apart from emptying the collecting tray and the occasionally required illuminant replacement,
the product is maintenance-free. Repair or maintenance work must be carried out by a spe-
cialist.
• The outside of the housing should only be cleaned with a clean, soft, dry cloth. Do not use
aggressive cleaning agents or chemical solutions that could damage the housing (discolour-
ing) or impair operation.
Dust and parts of insects can be removed using a brush and a vacuum cleaner.
Disposal
Electrical and electronic devices must not be disposed of as domestic waste!
Please dispose of the product when it is no longer of use according to current statu-
tory requirements.
