Functional description of operating
elements
The PIR switch is installed instead of a normal light switch in an ap-
propriate concealed socket. The built-in LDR resistor reacts to
light. At the onset of twilight (< or = 10 lux) or darkness, the PIR
Switch is ready to operate. The passive infrared detector behind
the lens dome registers almost every movement of a heat source
within its capture area. After appropriate detection, the triac swit-
ches on the in-series light bulb. According to the setting of the ti-
mer, the subsequent switch-off time is between 5 and 200 se-
conds. The built-in control LED (light-emitting diode) operates as
an operating check indicator.
The unit is only suitable for indoor use. During connection in the
concealed socket, the hands, shoes, floor and connecting cables
must be absolutely dry.

Safety information

• The instrument left the factory in a technically-safe, perfect con-
dition. To maintain this condition and to ensure safe operation,
the user must take note of Chapter 1 "Intended use" and the sa-
fety instructions and warning notes (Attention!) which are contai-
ned in these user instructions.
• The PIR Switch is constructed to Protection Class II and may on-
ly be connected to and operated with 230 V AC supplies. The in-
stallation of the PIR Switch may only be carried out by a specia-
list familiar with installations and building regulations.
• During installation note that the PIR Switch is to be installed
where direct sunlight shining onto the sensor window (lens do-
me) is avoided. The sensitive sensor could be damaged by this.
• The bared ends of the connecting cables may in no case exceed
6
a length of 5 mm. If flexible conductors are employed, suitable
sleeves must be used.
• Take care that neither the insulation of the connecting cable(s)
nor the PIR Switch case is damaged or destroyed. Bare connec-
ting wires endanger life if touched!
• The PIR Switch is not a toy and consequently under no circum-
stances does it belong in the hands of children!
• In commercial facilities the accident-prevention regulations of
the industrial employers' liability association for electrical sy-
stems and equipment must be observed.
• In schools, training facilities, hobby and self-help workshops, the
handling of the PIR Switch (movement detector) must be super-
vised responsibly by trained personnel.
• Before putting the PIR Switch into service each time, check for
damage externally (without dismantling).
• Do not operate the PIR Switch in areas or under adverse envi-
ronmental conditions, in which inflammable gases, fumes or dust
is present or can occur.
• The PIR Switch case and the lens dome may not come into
contact with hot objects (hobs, soldering irons, hot air blowers,
etc.).
• If it can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible,
then the unit must be switched off and protected against unin-
tentional operation. It can be assumed that safe operation is no
longer possible if
- the unit shows visible signs of damage,
- the unit no longer functions and
- after prolonged storage under unfavourable conditions or
- after severe transportation stress.
